They will also be taking part in this year's Kouhaku Uta Gassen, a very prestigious, annual new year's eve show produced by NHK. Appearing in Kouhaku is by invitation only and is considered an honor in Japan. This will be AKB's second appearance in Kouhaku; they appeared two years ago and is a huge honor in their short 4 year career. For the Philippines, only Gary Valenciano and Smoky Mountain has appeared on Kouhaku (on the 41st and 42nd Kouhaku, respectively). This year will be Kouhaku's 60th.
